John Denver was a superstar singer who touched millions with his pop-folk songs and many of them inspired by Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in love with Colorado and then settled in Aspen. Denver's songs for his home state have drawn many to Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the director of this hall of fame, stated: "I don't believe there anyone else who has as much a connection to Colorado in the same way as John Denver." In 2011 Denver was chosen as the Hall of Fame's very first inductee. For many, Denver is the image of Colorado. People you meet in other countries, like New Zealanders, and they tell them "I am from Colorado" And they immediately react with "Oh John Denver. Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was Denver's top 10 hit following a performance with a smaller folk groups. It was co-written by and performed by Bill Danoff. Danoff composed the tune to Johnny Cash but Denver recognized the potential of the single after hearing it first. Just a few days after singing to an enthusiastic crowd on the streets of Washington D.C., the singer recorded this song.
